District Clerk
Kathy A. Thompson comes to the Central School District as a native Californian, born in Los Angeles in 1960. She attended 13 public and private schools throughout greater Los Angeles, graduating from Glendora High School in 1978. Her father was a real estate broker, and his own best client, which explains the many school transitions. She attributes her ability to be at ease with people to the necessity of making friends after each relocation.
Kathy met her husband, Ron, in 1979 and after earning her License in Vocational Nursing, they were married in 1980. She worked at Queen of the Valley Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. Kathy and Ron began their family with the birth of Diane in 1982, then Mark in 1984 and finally Daniel in 1987. After Daniel's birth, she began working as a home health nurse on the weekends, allowing her to be an active parent at both Bear Gulch Elementary and Cucamonga Middle School.
In 1995 after many years of volunteering on school site councils and in parent teacher organizations, she had the opportunity to begin to serve on the Board of Trustees. In 1997, she expanded that service to the county serving on the San Bernardino County School Boards Association and to the state as a delegate to the California School Boards Association. She has been re-elected to both positions three times.
Kathy has a deep personal commitment to public education and to the community. In 2001 she began teaching for the Regional Occupational program locally and is now teaching classes related to the medical field at Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, a residential school for Native American high school students from all over the western United States.
Kathy is active in her church, coordinating children's camps and activities as well as teaching Sunday School to 5th and 6th graders.
Kathy states, "I am honored to continue my service to the Central School District family. I know that Central is among the finest in the area! Our students, employees and community are all committed to the excellent education of each student. It is a privilege to be part of this fine organization."
